The Kinks confirm tracklisting for Muswell Hillbillies deluxe edition

The Kinks have confirmed the tracklisting for the forthcoming deluxe reissue of their 1971 Muswell Hillbillies album. The new 2-CD edition - which is released on October 7 through Universal - features five previously unreleased tracks, including "Lavender Lane" and early demo "Nobody’s Fool", as well as alternative song versions and BBC sessions. All have been re-mastered from original tapes. Meanwhile, a new book by Ray Davies - Americana: The Kinks, The Road And The Perfect Riff - is published by Virgin Books this autumn.

Dinosaur Jr to release coffee-table book

Dinosaur Jr are to release a large format book, Dinosaur Jr. by Dinosaur Jr., this November. According to a report on Consequences Of Sound, the book will feature rare and previously unseen photographs, band flyers and memorabilia and brand new interviews with J Mascis, Lou Barlow, and Murph.

Nigel Godrich has said that Atoms For Peace initially "generated a lot of crap". Speaking to Middle 8 – the publication from online music platform Soundhalo – Godrich and Thom Yorke spoke about the band's early gestation period. "We generated a lot of crap," said Godrich. "Thom and I went through everything and we created tracks out of bits of it and started restructuring things. Then by the time we took it back to the guys, they were, 'Um. Is this me playing right now?'

No sooner has one Mark Kozelek album turned up than, ridiculously, another one is announced. www.caldoverderecords.com claims another Sun Kil Moon album is due January 14 next year, also featuring Steve Shelley, Jen Wood, Will Oldham and Owen Ashworth. In even less a shock, it promises that Kozelek “sings about his childhood years and his life today.”

Bruce Springsteen to re-release landmark box set of rare material

Bruce Springsteen is to re-release his landmark four disc box set, Tracks, on September 30. The box set, which has been unavailable for five years, contains unreleased songs, outtakes, demos and alternative versions taken from throughout his career. Tracks was originally released in 1998, and will be re-issued as a DVD-sized bookset through Sony Music/Legacy Recording. The tracks have been digitally remixed and remastered, and this repackaged set comes with a 56 page colour booklet of photos, lyrics and complete session information.

‘The Rolling Stones played the loudest ever Hyde Park gig and only had one complaint,’ say promoters

The Rolling Stones apparently played the loudest gig ever to take place in London's Hyde Park, according to Jim King of concert promoters AEG. King added that despite this, only one complaint about the noise was recorded. Speaking to Music Week, King commented: "The Rolling Stones played the loudest anybody's ever played in Hyde Park before and we had one complaint. The music could have been off and we'd have still had that complaint anyway."
