A Beatlesโ€˜ classic โ€˜Across The Universeโ€™ is to become the first ever song beamed directly into space next week, as part of US Space Agency NASAโ€˜s 50th birthday celebrations.

The Lennon/McCartney penned track which appears on the 1970 album โ€˜Let It Beโ€™ โ€“ also celebrating itโ€™s 40th anniversary, having been recorded at Abbey Road in 1968 โ€“ will be transmitted through the Deep Space Network of antennas aimed at North Star Polaris.

Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney has said in a message to NASA โ€œWell done. Send my love to the aliensโ€ reports BBC news.

John Lennonโ€™s widow, Yoko Ono, has also commented on the feat, saying: โ€œI see this as the beginning of the new age in which we will communicate with billions of planets across the universe.โ€

โ€˜Across The Universeโ€™ will be transmitted at midnight GMT this Monday (February 4) and Beatles fans around the world are being asked to mark the occasion by playing the track at the same time.
