Kings Of Leon have written โ€œfour or fiveโ€ new songs for their next album, despite the fact their last, โ€œOnly By The Nightโ€, was released in September.

The band, who have become increasingly prolific, have been working out new tracks during soundchecks on their world tour.

Speaking to BBC 6Music, drummer Nathan Followill said: โ€œWeโ€™re probably four or five songs into the next record Iโ€™d say, we do all of our writing in sound checks, so you have a month long tour, thatโ€™s 25 sound checks.

โ€œYou can get up there and at least work on ideas and kind of pick the direction you want to go in for the next record.โ€

He also explained that the new songs were sounding a little more upbeat than the anthemic songs on โ€œOnly By The Nightโ€, saying: โ€œ[Theyโ€™re] a little more rhythmic, a little more fun, not as, I donโ€™t want to say depressing, but not as droney, not as anthemic or dramatic melodies. Itโ€™s more like just us up there, having fun, just playing fun stuff.โ€

The Followills, who scored UK number ones with their album and its first single โ€œSex On Fireโ€, are currently on a month-long UK tour.
