Blues and folk singer John Martyn has announced that he will be performing his brilliant album โ€œSolid Airโ€ for some special shows in January.

โ€œSolid Airโ€ was described in Martynโ€™s Album by Album feature in last monthโ€™s Uncut as โ€œthe prototype ambient and trip hop albumโ€ with a โ€œmix of blues, jazz and rock.โ€

Martyn told Uncut that โ€œlooking back, I knew at the time it was a good album. People would come down to visit and Iโ€™d play them โ€˜May You Neverโ€™.โ€

Martyn got the idea for the special shows after a highly acclaimed sell-out show performing the 1973 album in full at Londonโ€™s Barbican Centre in September.

Fuelled by his huge voice and staggering guitar playing, there is always a near-religious intensity to Martynโ€™s shows.
