It’s been six years since The Coral released their self titled debut album and with it resuscitated Liverpool’s music scene. Following in the footsteps of bands like The Las, The Coral was a shimmering mix of ’60s psych, classic song writing in the Merseybeat tradition and blessed with a strong sense of the surreal.

While their live sets usually rely on vintage gear and old orange amps set to FUZZ, The Coral are, at their core, a band used to unplugging their instruments. Their acoustic performance at the Uncut Arena on Saturday will give them the opportunity to expose the dustier regions of their back catalogue.

Songs like ‘Another turn in the lock’, all stripped-down strings, flute parts and simple harmonies, show that the Skelly brothers are as at home singing old-fashioned country songs as they are letting rip on weird and wonderful psychedelic fables like ‘Bill McCai’ and ‘Skeleton Key’.

Rumour has it that since the release of their fifth album Roots & Echoes the band have been working on new material as part of as yet undisclosed multi-media project and are likely to debut some new songs at Latitude!
