The 20th Uncut Playlist Of 2009

Here’s this week’s selection of new and newish things we’ve played in the Uncut office. My favourite of the fresh arrivals here is the Deradoorian EP, which I’ve finally got hold of, and which may well appeal to people who, like me, struggle with certain aspects of Angel Deradoorian’s regular band, Dirty Projectors.

The 19th Uncut Playlist Of 2009

A lot of new arrivals this week, the best of which on first listen seems to be the Tinariwen album. Considering how many Super Furry Animals fans have loitered here in the past, I should probably also point out that Gruff Rhys guests on the new Simian Mobile Disco album.

The 18th Uncut Playlist Of 2009, plus more Neil Young

Plenty of discussion on last week’s Neil Young blog, and also, more fractiously, over at Thrasher’s Wheat, about the value/usefulness/etc of “Archives”.

The 17th Uncut Playlist Of 2009

After a couple of weeks away, there was quite a selection of stuff waiting for me when I returned to Uncut on Tuesday, as this playlist hopefully shows. A situation compounded yesterday by the arrival of Neil Young’s fabled first volume of “Archives”.

The 16th Playlist Of 2009

Not strictly an office playlist this week, since I haven’t actually been near the Uncut office for the past week and a half. Instead, here’s what I’ve been listening to at home, out and about in the sun, and so on.

The 15th Uncut Playlist Of 2009

Some pretty big names in the mix this week, including a small rush of survivors from the American ‘80s underground: shame the Lemonheads’ covers album hasn’t arrived in time to complete the set.

The 14th Uncut Playlist Of 2009

Pretty weird mix this week, as I look down this list, not all of it fantastic. If I can break the usual protocols here, though, the Johnny Cash remix is really awful, and I speak as a Snoop Dogg fan. Given that “I Walk The Line” looked like the most interesting thing on the Cash remix album that turned up the other day, I suspect we might have found the worst record of 2009 already – though I must confess I don’t have the moral courage to check and make sure.

The 13th Uncut Playlist Of 2009

Hopefully, you’ve been following our updating playlist on the brand new Uncut Twitter. It seems to be working now so that, when I post a new blog, it automatically puts a link on Twitter. Quite handy, perhaps.

The 12th Uncut Playlist Of 2009

Not quite as long a playlist as usual this week, chiefly because Number Nine here – The Grateful Dead live at “Winterland 1973” – is a box set of nine CDs, and we played the first three, comprising the entire set from November 9, straight through yesterday. November 10 and 11 to come in the next couple of days, if my colleagues will let me get away with it, then there’s a 3CD set from around the time of “Terrapin Station” to have a go at, too.

The 11th Uncut Playlist Of 2009

First off, an important plug for Allan's blog, where he's posted a preview of the new Bob Dylan album, "Together Through Life". No copy in the Uncut office as yet, but I'll try and write something myself when it turns up.
