We’re down on the farm and taking in the immense atmosphere that is Glastonbury 2007.
Record numbers of people have arrived onsite ahead of the music side of the festival kicking off today, last night had a amazing party atmosphere – more like what the Friday night used to be like in previous years.
We arrived to find the sun blazing down and not the muddy field we’d been led to believe, but as it’s Glastonbury weekend, of course the rain has come, beating down from 5am this morning.
Luckily Uncut is staying in one of these lovely wendy house style podpads…They really are the way forward in inclement weather. Plenty of room to swing a cat, but not to stand up straight. But hey it’s dry!
As the music kicks off around now, I took the opportunity to go for a little explore of the mammoth spaces around us last night. Up past the Other Stage, where apparently the world’s largest pub The Queen’s Head is, up to have a look around the Healing Fields, before sitting down to take in the view from the infamous Stone Circle.
Hundreds of people were up on the hill were watching the Summer Solstice sun go down on the longest day of the year, to the sound of drums beating, and fireworks going off to signal everyone’s arrival.
As darkness fell last night, on a long walk around the site, bars and cafes were open till late, everyone getting their bearings, but in great spirits. The vibe is certainly catching, am very excited about the coming few days 🙂
Off now to see what devastation this morning’s rain has caused, let’s see if Michael Eavis‘ new multi-million pound drainage system has made any difference…
Today is a biggie for artists – Arctic Monkeys headline the Pyramid Stage, Bjork the Other Stage. Rufus Wainwright, Arcade Fire, Super Furry Animals,Toumani Diabate & Symmetric Orchestra and The Hold Steady are all on today too.
Check back in later, and I’ll let you know how they were, let’s see if the new wellies keep me upright!
Ciao
