Paul McCartney has revealed that he wanted to create โmischiefโ when he decided to title his new album โKisses On The Bottomโ.
The singer, who releases the album on February 6, had previously said that the LPโs title is taken from the lyrics in jazz man Fats Wallerโs 1935 hit โIโm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letterโ, which he covers on the album.
However, McCartney has now revealed that he also believes a little bit controversy surrounding an album title is โgood for the soul.โ
He told the Sunday Times when asked about the album title: โI like mischief. Itโs good for the soul, itโs always a good idea โ if only because people think itโs a bad idea.โ
โKisses On The Bottomโ is made up of songs McCartney listened to as a child as well as two new songs, โMy Valentineโ and โOnly Our Heartsโ. It has been recorded with producer Tommy LiPuma, Diana Krall and her band and it also features appearances from Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder.
The Beatles man also said that the albumโs title didnโt go down so well with his record label when he told them about it and that they begged him to change it.
He said of this: โI made the suggestion and got this nervous text from the label which said โPaul, under no circumstances can we do thisโ. One of the guys said he felt like heโd been punched in the gut.โ
The tracklisting for โKisses On The Bottomโ is as follows:
โIโm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letterโ
โHome (When Shadows Fall)โ
โItโs Only A Paper Moonโ
โMore I Cannot Wish Youโ
โThe Glory Of Loveโ
โWe Three (My Echo, My Shadow And Me)โ
โAc-Cent-Tchu-Ate The Positiveโ
โMy Valentineโ
โAlwaysโ
โMy Very Good Friend The Milkmanโ
โBye Bye Blackbirdโ
โGet Yourself Another Foolโ
โThe Inch Wormโ
โOnly Our Heartsโ
