Noel Gallagher has revealed that heโ€™s set to release his cover of John Lennonโ€˜s โ€œMind Gamesโ€, which he recorded to mark the late Beatles musicianโ€™s 80th birthday.

During the latest edition of his new Radio X residency, the former Oasis man spoke to Matt Morgan about taking on the 1973 single while he was working in the studio last year.

Heโ€™d been approached to contribute to a new covers album in tribute to Lennon, which was being assembled by his son Sean Ono Lennon.

โ€œI couldnโ€™t get involved because I was doing something at the time,โ€ Gallagher explained. โ€œAnd on the eve of his birthday, Sean said, โ€˜Oh you know how itโ€™s dadโ€™s birthday tomorrow, and can you do something on your socials?โ€™

โ€œI happened to be in the studio and I said, โ€˜Well, letโ€™s recordโ€™. We just did a version of โ€˜Mind Gamesโ€™ and did a little film.โ€ (You can see that Instagram video below).

Asked whether the full version of the cover would ever be released, Gallagher replied: โ€œYeah. Iโ€™ll finish it off and do it forโ€ฆ Iโ€™ll do it for Record Store Day maybe or something.

โ€œIโ€™ve done a lot of covers recently. Iโ€™ll probably collate them all and do it for something or other. It came out pretty good actually.โ€

Speaking on the first episode of his Radio X show earlier this month, Gallagher downplayed his brother Liamโ€˜s perceived hell-raiser status. โ€œHeโ€™s a bit of a charlatan,โ€ he said, adding: โ€œA lot of them in the game canโ€™t walk it like they talk it. Itโ€™s usually those with the big mouths.โ€

Upon announcing his new radio venture, Noel Gallagher promised fans โ€œsome great tunes, and a lot of nonsense, being spouted mostly by me!โ€

Having teased the release of more new solo music while admitting heโ€™s hit a โ€œpurple patchโ€ in his songwriting, Gallagher has also hinted at plans for a solo tour where he plays just Oasis songs.

This comes ahead of the upcoming documentary about Oasisโ€™ legendary Knebworth gig, which Gallagher has described as โ€œfucking outrageousโ€. Oasis Knebworth 1996 will be screened in cinemas worldwide from September 23.
